Months before the release of the S60 saloon, Volvo is already promoting the new V60 by releasing key details about the car.
The new model has been designed to combine estate-car practicality with many of the design features of their coupé vehicles. For example, the car has slick design features but still manages to have 430 litres of luggage space.
The car also includes new safety systems, such as a Pedestrian Detection system that brakes automatically if a pedestrian is at risk of being hit. In addition to these features it also has a 180 degree camera for pulling out of T-junctions.
Örjan Sterner, head of exterior design at Volvo, said, “From the design viewpoint, the focus was on making the car as close to a coupé as possible, while retaining that handy extra space at the rear. Our sports wagon does not aim to compete with the traditional estate car.
The dip in the middle of the double wave visually pushes the car down. This enhances the stance and makes the car look sleeker and lower. The sculpted bonnet and the short overhangs front and rear also emphasise the sports car feel.”
The V60 also has other safety features which make it ideal for the family market. These include a Lane Departure Warning (LDW) that informs drivers if they cross lanes without using their indicators and a Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) that alerts drivers when a vehicle or pedestrian is in their blind spot.
With these design and safety features, this vehicle will be ideal for the family market when it becomes available to purchase and lease.
