General Electric have designed a new chic and ultra-modern charging station for electric vehicles.
Jeff Immelt, a Chief Executive from General Electric, recently revealed the new chargers, which are rumoured be the best-looking charging points so far.
The charging point, called the WattStation, was created by San Francisco designer Yves Behar who manages and owns the design company Fuseproject.
The WattStation resembles an upright and stylish tube with a ring of LED lights which turn green once the car is fully charged. The charger has been designed to integrate into the urban environment without standing out and appearing to be bulky or out of place like some of the current charging points on offer.
Current estimates indicate that the WattStation will probably sell for between $3,000 and $7,000 to commercial and industrial customers, although this figure will depend upon the optional features that are available.
There is also a domestic version that will be installed in peoples’ homes or garages that will cost between $1,000 and $1,500.
The newly developed charging station has been developed as part of the $200 million “innovation challenge” that intended to promote novel and unique designs within the industry.
This challenge gave Jeff Immelt and Fuseproject the opportunity to design the new stations and perhaps even change the way that the public view electric cars. As a result, the newly designed charging station has offset worries that the new stations will be cumbersome and visually unappealing.
It is thought that the WattStations will be shipped to companies around the world at the end of this year.
